Zapier connects thousands of apps. Send every new AskFunnel lead to Zapier and it can add the lead to your CRM, write a row in a spreadsheet, post in Slack, send an email or start anything else you set up. A Zap is Zapier’s name for one automation. Each new lead starts your Zap the moment it arrives, with the contact details, every answer and where the lead came from. You do this with a webhook, which is a web address that receives each new lead. AskFunnel has no separate Zapier connection to install. The steps are below, and Send your leads to a webhook explains the webhook settings in detail. With Zapier, you can:
  • Connect apps AskFunnel does not connect to directly. For example Mailchimp, Notion, Slack or your CRM.
  • Use every answer. Pick the contact’s email, phone and each answer in any step of your Zap.
  • Stay in control. AskFunnel retries automatically and shows every lead in a delivery log.
Before you start, you need:
  • The Growth plan or above. See Upgrade your plan.
  • A Workspace Admin or Global Admin role. Only they can manage webhooks.
  • A Zapier account. Zapier decides which of its plans include Webhooks by Zapier, and may ask you to upgrade if yours does not. Check your Zapier plan if you cannot find the app.
  • A funnel with a form. See Set up your lead capture form.

Important to note

  • Only new leads are sent. Leads that arrived before you added the webhook are not.
  • Keep your Zap turned on. When a Zap is off or deleted, Zapier answers that the address was not found. AskFunnel then marks the lead Failed and does not try again by itself. After you turn the Zap on, click “Retry failed” in the delivery log.
  • Treat the Zapier webhook address like a password. Anyone who has it can start your Zap.
  • If your plan drops below Growth, your webhook is kept, but new leads are no longer sent to it.

Set up the connection

1

Create a Zap that waits for a webhook

In Zapier, create a new Zap, then:
  1. Click the Trigger step and search for Webhooks by Zapier.
  2. In the Event list, choose Catch Hook. Do not choose Catch Raw Hook.
  3. Click Continue. Leave Pick Off A Child Key empty and click Continue again.
  4. On the Test tab, Zapier shows your webhook address, which starts with https://hooks.zapier.com. Click Copy.
Keep this tab open. Zapier is now waiting for a lead.
2

Add the address to your funnel in AskFunnel

  1. From your main dashboard, find the funnel you want to connect.
  2. Click the three small dots (…) on that funnel’s row, then click “Funnel Settings”.
  3. On the left side menu, click “Integrations”.
  4. Under Send leads to, on the Webhooks card, click “Settings”.
  5. Paste the address into Webhook URL and click “Add webhook”.
You see Webhook added. New leads will be sent to it.The Webhooks window with a Zapier webhook address typed in the Webhook URL box and the Add webhook button, both highlighted
3

Send a test lead

  1. In AskFunnel, click the three dots (…) on the webhook’s row, then “Send test”.
  2. You see Test delivered, for example Test delivered (200 OK). The sample lead is named AskFunnel Test.
  3. Back in Zapier, click Test trigger. Zapier shows the sample lead and splits it into separate fields that you can use in the next steps.
If Zapier finds nothing, send the test again and click Test trigger again. The three dots menu of a webhook, open, with the Send test item highlighted
4

Add what should happen next

Add an action step for the app you want, for example Google Sheets, Slack or your CRM, and fill its fields with values from the sample lead. The lead’s name, email and phone are listed under the contact details, and each answer is listed under the answers, named after your question. The full list is in What AskFunnel sends.
  • The sample has test set to true. To keep test leads out of your CRM, add a Filter step and only continue when test is false.
  • Answers are named after your questions. If you rename a question later, its name in Zapier changes too, and you need to pick it again.
5

Publish your Zap

Publish your Zap in Zapier so that it is on. A Zap that is off does not receive leads.
6

Try it with a real lead

Open your live funnel, fill in the form and submit it. The Zap runs within moments. Delete the test lead in your other app afterward if you like.

How do I know it is working?

  • The Webhooks card in AskFunnel shows Connected and the address, for example hooks.zapier.com.
  • In AskFunnel, click the three dots (…) on the webhook, then “Delivery log”. Each lead shows Delivered, Retrying or Failed. Tests are listed as Test.
  • In Zapier, your Zap’s run history shows a run for each lead.

Troubleshooting

Zapier answered that the address does not exist. Check that you pasted the whole address from the Test tab, with no spaces, and that the Zap still exists and is turned on. Then send the test again. Other test messages are explained in Send your leads to a webhook.
Open the Zap’s Test tab and click Test trigger after you send the test. If the address was copied from a different Zap, create the webhook again and paste the right address into AskFunnel.
Open a lead to see the reason. If it says the endpoint was not found, the Zap was off or deleted when the lead arrived. Turn the Zap on, then click “Retry failed” in the delivery log.
AskFunnel delivers each lead at least once. If Zapier was slow and AskFunnel retried, or you clicked “Retry”, the same lead arrives again with the same ID. See The same lead arrived twice.
Webhooks are available on the Growth plan and above. Click “Upgrade to Growth” in the Webhooks settings, or see Upgrade your plan.
Search for it in the Trigger step. If Zapier asks you to upgrade, your Zapier plan does not include it. That is decided by Zapier, not AskFunnel.

Manage the connection

  • Send to Zapier and other tools: add up to 10 webhooks to a funnel. Click “Add webhook” in the Webhooks settings.
  • Pause it: turn off the switch on the webhook’s row. Leads that arrive while it is paused are not sent later.
  • Remove it: click “Delete webhook” in “Edit webhook”. Turn off or delete the Zap in Zapier too.
